In the past, distilleries produced advertising material with their distillery, brand and drinks names on mirrors, signs, etc. These were given out to pubs who sold their products. Some of these advertisements still adorn the walls of pubs to this day. They have survived the ups and downs of the whiskey industry and are a nostalgic reminder of the old good times and the often forgotten brands and distilleries of old.
Today’s pick is a lovely old Mirror from Kilbeggan Distillery. Kilbeggan Distillery (formerly Brusna Distillery and Locke's Distillery) is an Irish whiskey distillery situated on the River Brosna in Kilbeggan, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is owned by Beam Suntory. The licence to distil dates to 1757, that makes it one of the oldest in Ireland.

In 1886 the English journalist Alfred Barnard travelled through Ireland visiting and documenting its distilleries. From these travels, he produced a book that documented all twenty-eight distilleries that lined his trip. At the time these twenty-eight distilleries produced 60% of whiskey worldwide with as many as 400 different brand names.

About a century and a half later and the “Whiskey Kate” as her friends call her, seeks to recreate and explore this whiskey journey but in modern time with her Irish driver Shem. Through their journey in the Emerald Isle, she goes to the local roots of this “whiskey rebirthing” and speaks with many locals that have lived through more difficult times. All the exciting and comedic details of her journey you can read about in "Ireland's Whiskey Guide".
