Today's standout from my Advent calendar: Egan's Vintage Grain Irish Whiskey. Steeped in history, Egan’s Irish whiskey dates back to the 1800s, founded by Patrick Egan. The legacy continued in 1835 when his two sons established P. & H. Egan Limited, a respected business in Tullamore.
This sweet and characterful single-grain whiskey undergoes complete maturation in ex-bourbon barrels. From its casking in 2009 to bottling in 2017, it offers a delightful complexity and indulges the palate with rich flavors of vanilla complemented by subtle hints of caramel.

Today's spotlight from my Advent calendar: A discovery from a small distillery in Fore, Co. Westmeath. Although this distillery is new and hasn't debuted its whiskey yet, they've astonished me with their golden rum crafted in-house. This honey-coloured spirit undergoes a serene maturation in ex-bourbon casks, culminating in a finishing touch with the distinctive qualities of locally sourced Irish Oak. The result? An exceptional Irish Rum, rich in both colour and flavour.

Today's Advent calendar spotlight is Powers Gold Label, steeped in the storied history of John’s Lane, Dublin. This whiskey stands out with more 'top and tail' being discarded in its production than any other Irish whiskey. It matures in carefully selected American oak casks, where its bold, spicy character evolves.

This complex, honeyed taste results from its composition - approximately 70% pot still and triple distilled. The spicy, bold character emerges during maturation in American oak, offering cinnamon, ripe pear, and charred oak notes on the nose. Dive into flavours of orchard fruits, toasted oak, and crisp barley, culminating in a long, distinctive pot still finish.

Today's all about the gin spirit! I've snagged three unique Irish gins from distilleries that also produce whisky.

It is introducing the delightful Grace O'Malley Heather Gin! Crafted with 14 handpicked botanicals from Ireland's west coast, this gin boasts a harmonious mix. Heather leads alongside wild thyme, red clover, blackthorn, bilberry, and rock samphire, creating a beautifully balanced spirit with floral, herbal, and subtly coastal notes. It is best served with tonic over ice, garnished with fresh herbs and a slice of pink grapefruit for a perfect sip.

Introducing the inaugural pink expression by Shortcross Gin, distilled at Rademon Estate, acclaimed as Northern Ireland's premier craft distillery. Rosie’s Garden Gin pays homage to the founder's mother, a passionate cultivator of fruits and herbs within her 18th-century garden. This gin captures the essence of that garden, blending wild raspberries and strawberries alongside delicate notes of lavender and chamomile.

Experience the extraordinary with Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin - a harmonious fusion of botanicals that delivers an explosively flavorful taste! Embrace the juniper, grains of paradise, and a subtle whisper of gunpowder, igniting a zesty adventure for your taste buds. Don't miss the chance to savour this uniquely vibrant and captivating gin!

Today's Advent calendar standout: The single malt limited edition from Burren Distillers. Delving into the 13th-century Gaelic distilling heritage, Burren Distillers captures the essence of The Burren's unique terroir and pays homage to its vibrant community. This release revises an ancient profile - intricately complex, round, and deeply satisfying.

This set includes our 700ml limited edition bottle featuring a unique identification number a 50ml sample bottle, all elegantly presented in a beautifully crafted gift box. The inaugural release bottle draws inspiration from the captivating landscape of The Burren, reflecting the shapes and shadows of its rocks and crags. It's a captivating journey into The Burren's rich, distilling past.
